St. Walburga

The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Walburga is a listed church building in Benk , a district of the Bindlach community . St. Walburga is one of the so-called margrave churches.

history

The previous church was a branch of Marktschorgast until 1365 ; it burned down in 1740. The current church was built from 1741 to 1744 by the Bayreuth High Princely Building Authority. The interior was decorated from 1744 to 1748. The church was consecrated on May 1, 1749.

Furnishing

  • A large pulpit altar by JG Räntz, which is built up in a pyramid with a broad base. It was partially expanded by JG Schleunig.
  • A baptismal font by JG Räntz supported by an angel.
  • Stucco work by the court artist Jeronimo Francesco Andreoli.
  • Under the ceiling the eye of God , from which a real golden explosion of rays emanates.
  • Countless angel heads are also on the ceiling.
  • Colored chairs and galleries
  • Organ case from 1805 in white and gold frame
  • Painting of the furnishings by the privileged art painter in Hof Heinrich Samuel Lohe
