St. Wendelin (Lechbruck am See)
The St. Wendelin chapel is on the road between Lechbruck and Sameister . It has a stately structure for a rural prayer chapel.
In 1992 the municipality of Lechbruck am See took over the St. Wendelin chapel from the neighboring municipality of Bernbeuren . The building, first mentioned in a document in 1480, once served as a spiritual center for the surrounding courtyards. Initially, the chapel was dedicated to the Apostle James the Elder , after being destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525 and the reconstruction, it was consecrated to the popular peasant saint St. Wendelin . On the picture of the high altar you can see St. Wendelin praying before the baby Jesus. After a lightning strike in 1737, the chapel was renovated in 1760 and the interior was transformed into a simple rococo hall . In the choir there are painted stucco forms in Rococo style.
Special
For a long time, St. Wendelin was the cause and destination of pilgrimages and supplications. The tradition of the Wendelinritt has been revived in the recent past. Riders, wagons and horses come together every year for a festive ride in October and ask for spiritual assistance.
