The St Columba of Iona Roman Catholic Church is a Catholic church building in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1992 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was completed in 1939. The architecture firm Gillespie Kidd & Coia is responsible for the design . The total cost was £ 30,000. Hugh Adam Crawford created the paintings of the Stations of the Cross, while Benno Schotz designed the altarpiece .

The St Columba of Iona Roman Catholic Church stands at the junction of Callander Street and Hopehill Road in north Glasgow. The building is designed in a modern interpretation of the Romanesque . The main facade is designed as a massive west building with rounded bulges protruding from the side, in which a baptistery and a staircase are housed. At the foot of the blunt tower there are three entrance portals with overhanging gables. The central one of the round arches indicated below is ornamented with a sculptured frieze and angel reliefs. Above that, a continuous window area forms a cross. The aisles are designed with narrow, elongated windows.
