St Francis Church (Glasgow)
The St Francis Church is a former Catholic church building in the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
history
A monastery was built on the site in 1869. The British architect Gilbert Blount provided the design . St Francis Church was built between 1879 and 1881. Peter Paul Pugin may be responsible for the design in collaboration with Cuthbert Welby Pugin . In 1996 the building, which had become obsolete in the meantime, was converted into a community center. The former monastery has housed a senior citizens' home since then.

St Francis Church is located in the southern Hutchesontown district of Glasgow at the junction of Sandyfaulds Street and Cumberland Street . The building is designed in the late neo-Gothic style. Above the wide, pointed main portal on the south facade, there are three high tracery . In the pediment a statue rests in a shrine . A stair tower emerges on the left. The side aisles are designed with entrance doors and high tracery. A small semi-octagonal chapel emerges from the right aisle . The final roofs are covered with slate. The two-story rectory on the right is stylistically adapted to the church, but designed more simply.
