When St Mary's Church is the ruins of a collegiate in the Scottish village of Maybole in the Council Area South Ayrshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. It is also classified as a Scheduled Monument .

history

In 1371 John Kennedy had a Lady Chapel built in Maybole. The building became a collegiate monastery in 1382. The church building may have been completely rebuilt in the early 15th century. Even after the Scottish Reformation, the church was used unchanged. This is how the reading of the Easter mass in 1563 is recorded. Extensions were made in the course of the 17th century and the building was still described as functional in the late 17th century. Among other things, the Earls of Cassilis were buried there at this time . Today only one ruin remains.

The building is on Kirk Port Street in the old center of Maybole. The associated cemetery is across the street. The masonry of the three-axis-wide, elongated building is made of quarry stone . The roof is no longer preserved today. On the south side there are two pointed arch windows of different sizes. On the left is a pointed arch portal with a profiled reveal . Two other windows show the remains of tracery . In the interior there are remains of two piscina in pointed arch openings. A pointed arched door led into the sacristy, which was added later .
