Marquess of Ailsa
Marquess of Ailsa , of the Isle of Ailsa in the County of Ayr , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The Marquess of Ailsa is the hereditary Clan Chief of Clan Kennedy .
The Marquesses' family residences were Cassillis House and Culzean Castle in South Ayrshire .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on September 10, 1831 for Archibald Kennedy, 12th Earl of Cassilis . He had already been awarded the title of Baron Ailsa , of Ailsa in the County of Ayr, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom on November 12, 1806 . In addition, as early as 1794 he inherited the following titles from his father, which had been bestowed on his ancestors:
- 12th Earl of Cassilis ( Peerage of Scotland , October 24, 1509);
- 14. Lord Kennedy (Peerage of Scotland, c. 1457);
- 7th Baronet , of Culzean in the County of Ayr, (Baronetage of Nova Scotia, December 8, 1682).
