St Michael's Well

The St Michael's Well is a well in the Scottish town of Linlithgow in the Council Area West Lothian . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest monument category A.

description

The fountain, dating from 1720, is located on High Street ( A803 ) in the center of Linlithgow. A tapered, ornate top rises up on a simple ashlar pedestal, which closes with a statue of the Archangel Michael . The statue, which holds a coat of arms of the city, comes from an older fountain and was transferred to it. The year of construction can be found below the sign with the inscription Saint Michael is kinde to Straingers . The structure was damaged in a car accident and the water outlet was not reconstructed afterwards, which is why it is no longer a well today.
