The specialist academy for the training of restorers in Munich is one of the oldest institutions in Germany that offers regulated training to become a restorer .
overview
It has been state-recognized since 1987 and occupies a special position among the institutions for restoration training: While this is taught nationwide at technical colleges and universities with appropriate access authorization, students with a secondary school leaving certificate can also be admitted here. Characterized by its proximity to a university of applied sciences course, this form of training as a three-year full-day training also enables a fifty percent practical training component. The qualification " State-certified restorer " or " State-certified restorer " can be achieved.
history
The institute that exists today has its roots in the restoration workshop of Alfred René Goering, which was opened in 1954 . From 1963, the first internship for restorers took place at the same location on Giselastraße. In 1982 the Institute for Applied Restoration was founded as a non-profit association that took over the training process that had existed since 1963. For the first time, a curriculum stipulated the learning content and training objectives in a training contract and thus abandoned the usual procedure of having candidates for the restoration profession complete an internship in the trade. After three years of schooling, the students of the institute completed their training as “certified restorers” . The state-approved technical school Goering Privat-Institut eV for restoration training in the furniture + wooden objects department was established in 1984. This was finally followed in 1987 by state recognition by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture for the "Technical Academy". This ministry is also the responsible supervisory authority for the specialist academy.
The training concept
In the specialist academy for the training of restorers, training is given in the furniture and wooden objects department. The concept of the specialist academy comprises theoretical basics with simultaneous practical exercise and instruction. During the practice-oriented studies, which take up around 50% of the teaching time, students are trained in the subjects of restoration and conservation . In the rest of the time, the subjects natural science, chemistry, biology, documentation, art history , art studies, economics as well as analytics, photo technology and polychromy (the latter with practical work) are taught. The training is full-time and is subject to the Bavarian school regulations.
