The Perm State University (PSU) ( Russian Федеральное государственное бюджетное образовательное учреждение высшего образования "Пермский государственный национальный исследовательский университет" Federalnoje gossudarstwennoje bjudschetnoje obrasowatelnoje utschreschdenije wysschego obrasowanija "Permskij gossudarstwennyj nazionalnyj issledowatelskij uniwersitet» , German , Federal State University "National Research University of Perm '' , English Perm State University , Russian for short Пермский государственный университет Permskij gossudarstwennyj uniwersitet , Russian for short ПГНИУ PGNIU ) is a university in Perm , Russia . It is the oldest university in the western Urals .

history

The university was opened on October 1st . / October 14, 1916 greg. with the help of scientists such as Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev , Alexander Stepanowitsch Popow , Dmitri Mamin-Sibirjak and AG Denissow as well as the industrialist Nikolai Meschkow as an offshoot of the then famous University of Saint Petersburg . The first faculty members included Boris D. Grekow, SP Obnorsky, NP Ottokar, AA Sawarsin, AS Jaschtschenko, KK Buga, Ju. N. Werchowski, Alexander G. Genkel and others. With these scholars, a Europeanization of the provincial city of Perm took place. The British traveler J. Greenwald called the young university the Ural Cambridge .

University

The 12 faculties are spread across the city. There are over 100 professors and 375 research assistants as well as approximately 11,000 students. 32 study programs with a duration of 10 semesters are offered. 10 study programs conclude with a Bachelor or Master (4 + 2). 250 doctoral students are supervised in 60 doctoral programs. The university is involved in the Tempus funding program of the EU .

The large-scale "Professor Alexander G. Genkel Botanical Garden" is well known.
