The Museum Catharijneconvent Utrecht is a national Dutch museum (so-called Rijksmuseum ) for religious art. It is housed in a former monastery, the Katharinenkonvent in Utrecht . The museum opened in 1979 and was named European Museum of the Year the following year .

The museum houses a collection of historical and art-historical exhibits, in particular the collection of the Archbishop of Utrecht, who resided in the Catherine's Convent until 1979. The collection period ranges from the early Middle Ages to the 21st century. The collection provides insights into Christian art and culture as well as the history of the Netherlands .

Dutch painting of the 16th and 17th centuries is presented through works by Jan van Scorel and Pieter Saenredam , among others . Among works of recent art, works by Jan Toorop , Shinkichi Tajiri , Frans Franciscus and Marc Mulders can be seen.
