The Belluno State Archives ( Archivio di Stato di Belluno ) is located in Belluno , Via S. Maria dei Battuti, 3. It contains most of the historical sources from the time before the founding of the Italian state, as well as the archives of the Italian authorities in the province. In addition, there are the archives of the Archivio notarile distrettuale as well as company, family and other private archives.
The institution was formally founded in December 1973 and early 1976 on the basis of a law that provided for the creation of a state archive in every provincial capital.
In 1978 the files of the military district, then those of the Prefettura, were handed over to the house, but this did not happen until the 1990s for a large part of the holdings. In 1994, the holdings of the Archivio notarile distrettuale, i.e. the files of the notaries of Belluno from the period between the 15th century and the Napoleonic era, came into the house.
Extensive holdings from the Venice State Archives , namely Podestà e capitanio di Belluno ; ASBL - Podestà e capitanio di Belluno, Raspe e sentenze criminali, reg. 12, podestà Bernardino Priuli (1566–1567) added. Then the Napoleonic cadastre, or Treviso (Confraternite e corporazioni ; Livinallongo-Ampezzo ) and Trento (Austrian cadastre, series K e OC).
The holdings of the private archives deserve special mention, especially those of the Doglioni, Miari and Banca Prosdocimi families. Also from Venice came holdings of the religious brotherhoods and associations related to Belluno.
