State form features is a term from constitutional law and general political theory . In German constitutional law, the synonyms state structure principle and constitutional basic decision are more common. Characteristics of the form of government are characteristics that define the elementary characteristics of the state community and determine the form of government in its main characteristics.

The Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany regulates the following characteristics of the state in Art. 20 GG:
