Stabat mater (Sances)

The Stabat Mater by Giovanni Felice Sances is a setting in the form of a solo - motet of the same medieval poem for Cantus ( soprano or tenor ) and basso continuo .

construction

The work, which was written in 1638, consists of a large-scale Passacaglia , which is interrupted in places by recitative sections. The compositional style offers the singer a variable, dramatic design option for the given text. The traditional text is concluded with an added amen . The work lasts about twelve minutes.
