Fåvang stave church

The fåvang stave church is a stave church in Norway . It is located in Fåvang in Ringebu commune in Gudbrandsdal in Innlandet . In the strict sense of the word, it is not a stave church, although parts of the construction are made of stave construction. The materials for the construction come from earlier, abandoned stave churches in the area. The oldest parts are dated to the years 1150-1250.

Building history

The church was built between 1627 and 1630. The architect was the well-known church and tower builder Werner Olsen Skurdal , who originally came from Nes (Hedmark) . He was also involved in the expansion of Vågå Stave Church and the renovation of Ringebu Stave Church and Lom Stave Church .

Fåvang stave church was rebuilt and expanded into a cruciform church, with most of the building materials coming from the abandoned stave churches in the valley. An earlier stave church at the same location was also used as a stock of materials. The church is not counted among the historical stave churches due to the extensive renovations.
