Stabsoboist (also Stabshautboist, Stabshoboist) is a historical rank of military musicians .

By the highest cabinet order of December 10, 1908, the position of a staff hoboist changed. They carried the title of music master and were appointed by the regimental commander. The service title "music conductor" was dropped. The former music conductors were given the title "Obermusikmeister".

Senior music masters and music masters were among the NCOs with portepee and were higher in rank than sergeants .

The staff oboist (music master since 1908) was the corps leader of the band in the German infantry and navy . He wore swallow nests with knadilla fringes, armpits made of woolen cord the same color as the armpit flaps of the tunic, a bandana made of cloth with trimmings and a lock (with a lyre) and a buckle belt .

Since 1898 the music conductor (since 1908 chief musician) wore armpit pieces with a lyre as well as armbands in the color of the armpit flaps of the troop section with braid and lock.

For music directors, the border of the armpit pieces is also gold or silver. The army music officer wore thicker endings made of wool and gold cord.
