Stadia (Caria)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stadia ( Greek  Σταδία ) was an ancient city in the Asia Minor region of Caria in southwest Turkey , probably on the site of today's Turkish city of Datça .

Stadia was closely related to the neighboring, more important Knidos . The city may have been called Pegusa for a time . Little is known about the history of the city. In Byzantine times in 787 it is attested as the seat of a bishop. The titular bishopric Stadia of the Roman Catholic Church goes back to the diocese .
