history

The building of today's city pharmacy was built at the turn of the 16th to the 17th century, a historical weather vane contained the year of construction 1606, which is often mentioned for the bay window. The building belonged to the Mayor of Gera Hans Hörel at the beginning of the 17th century Erkers conclude that it was installed shortly before 1600 when a stately administrative building was located here.

The city pharmacy as a company was also founded at that time, in 1603, but did not move into the building it gave its name until 1847. From 1998 to 2001 the building was extensively renovated.

Description of the bay window

The two-story, round bay window is decorated with reliefs below the windows. The reliefs on the first floor show representations of the four seasons, those on the second floor show coats of arms with reference to the then sovereign Heinrich Posthumus Reuss : next to his own coat of arms, the Reussian one, that of his mother ( Solms ) and that of his two wives ( Hohenlohe and Schwarzburg ) . Between the panels of the coats of arms and seasons there are depictions of ten apostles (on the first floor Bartholomäus , Jakobus the Elder , Simon Petrus , Andreas and Christophorus ; on the second floor Thomas , Philip , Paulus , Judas Thaddäus and Johannes ).
