Gérard Turbanisch (born September 12, 1956 in Graefelfing near Munich) is a former development worker who worked in Africa .

Life

Gérard Turbanisch is of German-French origin and, after studying economics in Montpellier and Berlin, went to Africa on behalf of GTZ and KfW as a development worker and advisor to various African statesmen.

He worked for Amadou Ahidjo , Paul Biya and General Pierre Semengue in Cameroon . He was sentenced to death by the Yaoundé Military Court after the April 6, 1984 coup d'état for young officers. After his rehabilitation and pardon, President Paul Biya appointed him a member of the General Staff. From 1985 to 1987 he worked as a confidante of President Thomas Sankara in Burkina Faso and was there with the organization of the road traffic system, the " Bataille du Rail " (the people built a railway connection to the desert with their own means) and the development of the national park "W" entrusted. In addition, Turbanisch was briefly active as a consultant to Emperor Jean-Bédel Bokassa and his successor, President David Dacko , and also worked there with the "Affreux" Bob Denard in the Central African Republic .

Turbanisch was one of the discoverers of the prehistoric village Parc des Courtinals near Montpellier as well as translator of the book Fighters of Hope and fellow campaigner of the missionary Father Pedro Opeka in Madagascar . Today he works at the Kiwanis Foundation International for the support of children in the developing world.
