The Freiberg City Archive is the archive of the city of Freiberg in the Free State of Saxony .
history
The city archive was first mentioned in a document in 1487. Between 1632 and 1635 it was set up as a council archive in the former silver chamber of the Freiberg town hall in order to preserve the documents dating back to 1224.
In December 2016, preparations began for the conversion of the Herderhaus into the new city archive, with only the historical archive in the city hall remaining after its completion.
Stocks
The city archive archives the documents of the Freiberg city administration, the city council and city institutions. In addition to the approximately 2,000 meters of archival material, the city archive stores around 3,100 documents (1224–1945), 21,000 maps, plans and cracks (from 1554) and 10,000 printed works from the council library.
