The Baden City Library is an Aargau memorial institution . It is located in a historic building on the edge of the old town of Baden in the Swiss canton of Aargau .

History and tasks

The library was founded on May 1, 1836, making it one of the oldest cultural institutions in the city of Baden. As a city and regional library, it serves to convey information to the general public. It makes books and other media available for loan, but also organizes events to promote reading, language and media skills and promotes intercultural exchange.

In addition, it ensures the most complete possible documentation and archiving of published and unpublished Baden information carriers (Badensia). These are media that have either appeared in the city of Baden, were written by Baden residents, or that address Baden and its residents.

In 2009 the Baden City Library was renovated and rebuilt. The reorganization and a redefinition of the management mandate contributed to an increase in the number of loans. In April 2012, it began as the first Aargau library to borrow e-books via an online library.
