Schaffhausen town house

The late baroque town house in Schaffhausen was built in 1730 as the “Zur Freudenquelle” house on the site of the former Barfüsserkirche . It contains a hipped gable roof . In 1771 an attic pavilion and terrace were added in the Rococo style . On the ground floor there is a ceiling sculpture by Johann Ulrich Schnetzler from 1733. It shows a child with a cross and a Bible in front of Pallas Athene with the coat of arms of Brunn . Stucco work and a ceiling painting on the 2nd floor, in today's city council chamber , are by the same artist . In 1838 the city bought the property and in 1839 it became a town house. 1983-85 an exterior renovation followed. The original architectural painting was exposed or restored.
