Listed remains of the Mönchengladbach city wall are located in Geropark at the foot of the Abteiberg in the south of the Gladbach district of Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The construction took place between 1300 and 1800. The complex was entered under No. A 047 on August 26, 1999 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

The preserved section of the city ​​wall is northeast of the Geroweiher between Weiherstrasse and Hittastrasse.

architecture

The city ​​wall, built from field fire bricks , consists in the east of the rudimentary remains of a shell tower , to which a 50 m long section of wall adjoins to the west. Several loopholes have been preserved in the up to 6 m high and 1 m thick city wall . While they widen to funnel-shaped openings on the city side, on the former field side they are only designed as small, high-rectangular notch openings.
