history

The museum was founded on the initiative of the lawyer and local historian Bruno Schimetschek (1908–2004) and opened in 1984 in the Hofhaus (today city office) on the main square. It has been in the building currently in use since 1995. This building was built at the end of the 18th / beginning of the 19th century and expanded in 1875. The parish or elementary school and later the savings bank and the municipal office were housed in it. In the course of the city survey, the name was changed from Heimatmuseum to Stadtmuseum in 2002 .
