The district school at the harbor is a district school with around 1150 students in the Hamburg districts of Neustadt , St. Pauli and Altona-Altstadt .

history

In the course of the school structure reform in 2010 , the district school at the port was created as a merger of three previous schools: Rudolf-Roß-Gesamtschule, St. Pauli all-day school and Königstraße school. In addition, expiring classes from the previous school Altonaer Strasse / Arnkielstrasse were included and integrated into the locations. The upper level of the district school at the port is being built in cooperation with the St. Pauli Business School (Budapester Straße).

School concept

With the founding of the district school at the port, the ambitious project was tackled to implement a high-quality general school offer in the western center of Hamburg, from grade 5 to the Abitur. The social diversity of the urban area in which the school is located is great, and there was no local tradition on which this project could have built.

The school attaches great importance to intercultural education, to learning in projects and in real situations. Examples are language learning - with an English branch as well as bilingual German-Portuguese and German-Turkish classes - in Neustadt or the students' lunch at the St. Pauli location, which is cooked by students in regular lessons. The connection to the respective district is important at all locations and is shown, for example, in the close partnerships with local institutions (examples: Altonaer Turnverband von 1845 eV, GWA St.Pauli eV, Neighborhood Management Neustadt).

Award

In 2014, the student Mamadou Diallo won the Hamburg Social Oskar. He came to Germany as a refugee child from Mauritania, where he managed to integrate through football. He is now helping other children who have difficulty finding their way in life with sports classes.
