The Artà Municipal Theater ( Catalan Teatre d'Artà ) is a theater in the Spanish municipality of Artà in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean island of Mallorca .

It is located on the east side of the street Carrer de Ciutat in the southern part of Artà at the address Carrer de Ciutat 1. The theater is surrounded by the promenade Paseo dels Taronger .

Architecture and history

The theater was built in the former garden of the Na Batlessa cultural center and opened on June 1, 2001. The architect of the building was Mateu Carrió . It has an event hall with 460 seats, a multipurpose room with around 100 seats and a meeting room with 20 seats. A cafeteria and ticket sales are located in the foyer of the building.

The stage of the house has an area of ​​134 m². An orchestra pit is located below the eleven meters wide and six meters high stage opening . There is an eleven ton fire protection curtain that can be used to separate the stage and auditorium. The lighting bridge is installed at a height of 14 meters and has eight electric winch hoists, 13 manual winch hoists and 16 counterweight hoists.

The acoustic room design was carried out by Higini Arau . He designed the ceiling and used different materials to achieve a homogeneous sound distribution.

There is a control room, a Cinemeccanica 35 mm projection system and a Dolby SR system. In addition, the theater has two communal and two individual cloakrooms.

For the theater, the Fundació Teatre Municipal d'Artà was created, which is to organize the involvement of the citizens in the theater. The focus is on youth work, local productions, the combination of amateur and professional work and the Catalan language. The theater hosts the Antoni Lliteres Classical Music Festival and the Cool Days Festival .
