Well Batlessa
Na Batlessa is a mansion used as a cultural center in the Spanish municipality of Artà in the north-eastern part of the Mediterranean island of Mallorca .
It is located on the east side of Carrer de Ciutat street in the southern part of Artà at the address Carrer de Ciutat 1.
Architecture and history
The building was constructed by the Catalan Enric Galiana between 1898 and 1900. Galiana had become rich in America and with the new building after his return, she showed this newly gained prosperity.
Like the buildings of other returnees known as Indianos , the house shows new architectural styles for the region that come from overseas places of activity. It has a curved staircase that leads to the building's street-side entrance. There is a first floor with a balcony.
In 1984 the then owner of the building, Cristóbal Ferrer , donated the house to the municipality of Arta. The community prepared Na Batlessa as a public cultural center. The city library, a youth information center and an exhibition hall were set up. The archive of the painter Miquel Barceló is also located in the building .
The Artà Municipal Theater, inaugurated in 2001, was built in the former large garden of the house .
