from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The city traffic in Riesa is carried out today by the Verkehrsgesellschaft Meißen (VGM), which currently operates six city bus routes. The central stops are on Goethestrasse and at the train station , where there is a connection to the local trains of Deutsche Bahn .

From 1899 to 1924 there was also a horse-drawn tram connecting the station with the city center. The operator was the Riesa tram company .

history

Since Riesa train station was about two kilometers from the city center at the end of the 19th century, plans were made for a horse-drawn tram to ensure a connection to the train station. The meter-gauge railway was put into operation on November 16, 1889 and led from the station to Rathausplatz, along today's main street. The railway was discontinued on October 21, 1924. The railway systems were dismantled and buses were used.

From 1997 to 2009 the traffic was carried out by the Riesa-Großenhain roundabout company (KVRG). VGM has been responsible for Riesa city traffic since 2010.

City bus service

In 2008, VGM operated six city bus routes, plus twelve regional bus routes. City buses run from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. Collective call taxis run every 30 minutes until midnight. Event buses only run for larger events in the ErdgasArena, New Year's traffic is only available on lines A 1, A 2 and D. The two central stops are on Goethestrasse, where the city bus routes A 1, A 2, B and D and most of them of the regional bus lines stop as well as at the train station, where all city bus lines, several regional bus lines and the Deutsche Bahn trains run.

At the station there is a connection to the trains on the Leipzig – Riesa – Dresden , Chemnitz – Riesa and Riesa – Elsterwerda routes .

The line network is designed in such a way that the central route between the train station and Goethestrasse reaches approximately 10-minute intervals during the day.
