Steel armored pipe threads are a group of historical threads with a flank angle of 80 °. They are also known as armored thread ( Pg ) or steel armored tube thread ( StaPa tube thread for short ). Since the armored steel pipes used are usually relatively thin-walled, the thread depth is not very large. The exact specification of this thread type is laid down in the DIN standard DIN 40430.
The area of application of Pg threads in the field of electrical installations was initially for the armored conduits that gave them their name and, above all, for cable glands for tight cable entry into electrical devices, switch cabinets , junction boxes and connectors. The Pg thread type has largely been replaced in these areas by metric threads according to EN 60423. In addition, Pg threads are still used today in special areas, such as the Pg13.5 thread for screwing sensors into bioreactors .
