Stallholmen is an island in the Swedish lake Helgasjön north of Växjö .
geography
The uninhabited island is in the immediate vicinity of the Kronoberg castle ruins on a neighboring island , which can only be reached from the mainland via Stallholmen. It is 160 meters long and a maximum of 73 meters wide. The area covers about half a hectare.
history
Stallholmen was part of the castle complex that was built in the 15th century . The island was surrounded by a defensive wall. Inside were stables in the middle of the courtyard, which gave the island its name. There were also barns, storage buildings and small wooden huts for maids, servants and other servants. In the 17th century the castle had fallen into ruin again.
