Master data pool

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With a master data pool , the master data of the products (e.g. name, description, recommended sales price) are only recorded once by a central data acquisition system; d. H. digitally recorded. They are maintained in this data pool. All connected interested parties ( service providers , dealers, other (data) suppliers ) are automatically supplied with the master data information of the products.

The manufacturers are responsible for setting up and maintaining their product range - i.e. for the topicality and correctness of their data.

The system of the master data pool is interesting for retailers, service providers, etc. for several reasons:

  • the pool can be used by all trading partners
  • Hardly any data acquisition errors, as the manufacturer also controls the entries
  • Cost savings, since not everyone has to enter the data themselves, but rather uses an existing data pool

The introduction of a database environment is a prerequisite for setting up and maintaining a master data pool.

A master data pool itself is the prerequisite for an optimized business process in the field of EDI ( Electronic Data Interchange ) and ECR (Efficient Consumer Response). EANCOM is a recommended standard for electronic data interchange (EDI) at ECR . The EANCOM standard is therefore an international standard application for the exchange of article master data , prices and conditions. On this basis, the manufacturer can e.g. B. record or update data via a web portal or software .
