The Como – Brunate funicular ( Italian Funicolare Como – Brunate ) is a funicular in Lombardy that connects Como with Brunate .

history

The Como – Brunate funicular was opened on November 11, 1894. Originally the cable car was operated with steam, in 1911 it was switched to electrical operation. With a length of 1084 meters, it overcomes 493 meters of altitude . The first 130 m run in the tunnel.

For many years it served as a transport route for the residents of Brunate. With the emergence of motorization of the residents, tourism became the main source of income. The railway is single-track and is operated with two cars that use a turnout in the middle of the route .

The journey time is seven minutes. The departures are between 6 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. every 15 or 30 minutes. The operating company is ATM spa

In 1934/35 the line was completely renovated, including the construction of a new train station in Brunate. In 1951 the vehicles were renewed.
