The star maker , also known as the Stern creator (Original title: Star Maker ) is a science fiction novel by the English author Olaf Stapledon . The novel, published in 1937, is today (along with The Last and First People and Sirius ) the most famous and influential work of Stapledon.

The novel is about how the mind of a nameless protagonist detaches from his body and takes a journey through the universe. In doing so, he encounters many other forms of life, experiences the creation and decay of entire worlds and finally meets the creator of the universe himself, the star maker .
