Church of the Archangel Michael (Jagodina)
The Church of Archangel Michael ( Hram arhangela Mihajla ), also known as Stara Crkva ("The Old Church"), is a Serbian Orthodox Church in Jagodina , Serbia . The church is dedicated to the Archangel Michael and was built by order of the Serbian prince and later monarch Miloš Obrenović . Construction began in 1818 and was completed in 1824.
The church building is comparatively small at 17.60 m long and 8.30 m wide. The height of the church is about 10 m. The floor plan has the shape of a cross, which houses the choir in the short distance of the longitudinal axis. In a red marble slab originally attached above the entrance, information about the history of the building was engraved, which later served as an important source for the year of birth of the monarch Miloš Obrenović. In its original place, however, the plate was too exposed to the weather, so that it is now attached to the altar inside the church.
