Starbrook

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Star Brook is a telescope of the British National Space Center (BNSC) on Mount Olympus , Cyprus . The system is designed for the observation of low- earth orbit ( LEO) up to 2000 km.

The Starbrook wide-field telescope was built in 2006 and works with a sensor that is still in the experimental stage for the detection of terrestrial objects in near-Earth space. The system can recognize so-called GEO objects up to a size of 1.5 meters in diameter. It has an aperture with a diameter of 10 cm, which covers an image field of 10 ° × 6 ° and is coupled to a CCD image sensor of 4008 by 2672 pixels. This enables high-resolution images to be generated that allow the identification of various objects (satellites, probes, space debris, meteorites). The data obtained are also evaluated by the Royal Air Force .

With other similar European telescopes, Starbrook is part of the ESA European Coordination Group on Space Debris . Its members are the BNSC, the French CNES , the German DLR and the ESA.
