Stargate (in German: Sternentor ) is an arcade game produced in 1981 and an implementation for the VCS Atari 2600 game console that appeared in 1984 . Other platforms on which an implementation appeared were: Apple II , Commodore 64 , NES , PC Booter . The manufacturer of the original arcade version was Williams Entertainment Inc. Atari secured the license for the implementation on the VCS Atari 2600 game console .
The shooter had a side-scrolling perspective and the primary aim was to save people from attacking aliens. The model of Stargate was Defender - so is the alternative title: "Defender II". The title "Stargate" came from a star gate through which one flew at the end of each wave of attacks.
