The Starwood Amphitheater (also First American Music Center and AmSouth Amphitheater ) was an amphitheater in Nashville , Tennessee .

The foundation stone for the site was laid on November 11, 1985. The theater cost around eight million US dollars to build and completed on June 20, 1986. Internationally successful artists and music groups such as Eric Clapton , Aerosmith and Mötley Crüe performed on the premises . On October 21, 2006 the theater was permanently closed. Demolition work began on September 27 of the following year. The area held around 18,000 visitors.

Industry insiders attributed the closure to the age and size of the structure. It no longer offered the conveniences of today and was only about two-thirds of what is expected of a venue of this type in North America today. The area has been vacant since the demolition.
