Stasandros

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stasandros ( Greek  Στάσανδρος , Latin Stasander ; † probably 316 BC) from the Cypriot Soloi was a general in the time of the Diadoch Wars .

At the conference of Triparadeisos 320 BC He was appointed satrap of the Upper Asian provinces of Areia and Drangiana by the victors of the First Diadoch War . In these offices he replaced his compatriot Stasanor . In the years 317/316 BC Stasandros is named as a supporter of Eumenes of Kardia by bringing him 1,500 infantrymen, 1,000 mounted soldiers and several Bactrian warriors for the fight against Antigonos Monophthalmos . His fate after the Battle of Gabiene remains anonymous, presumably he was executed like several other allies of Eumenes.

The victorious Antigonos Monophthalmos installed his follower Euitos and, when he soon died, Euagoras as governor in Areia and Drangiana.

Occasionally, in historical research, the assumption is made that the people Stasandros and Stasanor could have been identical. The similarity of their names, as well as their common geographical origin, are indicative of this.
