from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Euagoras ( Greek  Εὐαγόρας ; † autumn 311 BC ) was a general and official of the Diadoch ruler Antigonos Monophthalmos .

After Antigonus Monophthalmos in 316 BC. BC had triumphed over Eumenes von Kardia and thus became the ruler of the Asian part of the Alexander empire, he set Euitos as satrap in the double province of Areia / Drangiana . When he died after a short time, Euagoras was entrusted with this office. After Diodorus , he was admired for his bravery and intelligence. In 312 BC For unknown reasons, the province of Persis was transferred to Euagoras , where he replaced Asklepiodorus. Shortly afterwards he and the Satrap Nikanor of the media , who was also the strategist of the "upper provinces", were asked by Antigonus to fight against Seleucus , who had taken Babylon that year . Euagoras took part in this campaign with a specially formed contingent of Persian warriors, with whom he marched down the Tigris together with Nikanor . On the bank of the river they were surprised by the outnumbered Seleucus in their night camp. Euagoras was killed in battle, and his Persian troops went over to Seleucus.

Since Seleucus emerged victorious over Antigonos Monophthalmos from the so-called Babylonian War , he left the Persis and all " upper satrapies " to him, who were thus accepted into the Seleucid Empire .
