Stasys Antanas Bačkis

Stasys Antanas Bačkis (born February 10, 1906 in Pantakoniai (now the Rajongemeinde Pasvalys ), Wolost Joniškėlis ; † November 10, 1999 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian diplomat and lawyer .

Life

Bačkis graduated from Panevėžys grammar school . From 1925 to 1930 he studied at the Université de Paris . In 1928 he completed his studies in law , in 1929 in public law, in 1930 in political economy and international relations. In 1933 he received his doctorate in law . From November 1930 he worked in the diplomatic service of Lithuania. From 1930 to 1934 he was Secretary of the Political Department. From 1938 to 1939 he worked in the Lithuanian legation in Paris . In 1993 he returned to Lithuania .

From 1931 to 1932 he headed the Catholic Association of Lietuvos studentų ateitininkų sąjunga . From 1979 he was an honorary member of Lietuvos katalikų mokslų akademija .

Bačkis was married. His sons are Cardinal Audrys Juozas Bačkis and diplomat Ričardas Bačkis .
