The State House (formerly: Government House ) is the official residence of the President of Gambia and is located in the capital Banjul .

history

The ' Government House ' was built during the colonial times of Gambia in 1824 under Alexander Grant as one of the first houses in Bathurst (the former name of Banjul) and served as the residence and seat of government for the governors and later governors-general . With the independence of Gambia, the house was taken over as the seat of government, from now on: ' State House ', of the President of Gambia.

In 2000 the house underwent a major renovation, the work dragged on over six months. Yahya Jammeh , meanwhile , stayed at his second official residence in Kanilai .

It is under the special protection of a national monument.
