Statistical yearbook of the German Democratic Republic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Statistical Yearbook of the German Democratic Republic was published from 1955 to 1990 by the Central Statistics Administration of the GDR and summarized the most important statistical results on the country's population, society, state and economy. It was published by VEB Deutscher Zentralverlag in East Berlin .

criticism

The figures of the official statistics of the GDR were in the service of the propaganda of the SED and therefore did not always accurately reflect the state of the economy and society in the GDR. Arno Donda , head of the central administration for statistics, stated that it was recognized that it was necessary “to use statistics better as a weapon of agitation and propaganda to inform and mobilize the party organizations and all working people in the implementation of the plans”.
