Statue menhir from Ca l'Estrada

The Statue menhir of Ca l'Estrada is a 2004 Ca l'Estrada in Canovelles in the Comarca Vallès Oriental in Catalonia in Spain discovered Statue menhir . It is an anthropomorphic stone figure about 93 centimeters high. The picture side is not preserved in its entirety. Interesting are the similarities of the figure with the statue menhirs of the Rouergue type in south-eastern France, which date the statue menhirs of Ca l'Estrada to 3300–2200 BC. Probably do. Today it is part of the Granollers Museum collection .

Comarca Vallès Oriental

During work on the north bypass of the municipality of Canovelles, the archaeological site of Ca l'Estrada was discovered with remains from prehistoric, ancient and medieval times. The menhir of Ca l'Estrada consists of a reddish sandstone block . In the upper area there are structures that can represent the head. There are fine lines and folds on the back to match the hair or fur. A hand or an arm are marked by vertical lines, which are also interpreted as a scepter or weapon. Although the various elements and motifs primarily relate to statue menhirs of the Rouergue group, elements found in dolmens and menhirs of Catalonia also determine the representation.

With regard to similarities, the menhirs of Catalonia stand out:

  • Castellruf menhir in Santa Maria de Martorelles.
  • La Pedra Llarga in Palau-solità in Plegamans
  • La pedra Serrada in Parets
  • La Pedra in Llinars
  • La Pedra in Montmeló

They are believed to have had a ritual function, probably related to a water cult. Of the cultural monuments nearby, the Dolmen Pedra Gentil in Vallgorguina and the Dolmen Pedra de l'Arca at the Menhir de Can Freginals in Vilalba Sasserra are worth mentioning.
