Statuette of the Iddin-ilum

The Iddin-ilum statuette is a 41.5 cm high statuette made of steatite . It was made in the early 21st century BC. And found in the palace during French excavations led by André Parrot in Mari (Tell Hariri) in the winter of 1936/37 . Today it is exhibited in the Louvre in Paris (inventory number: AO 19486 ).

It is a prayer statuette which, apart from a broken arm and head, has largely been preserved. It shows a standing man in a long robe. An Akkadian inscription is carved into the lower area . Accordingly, this statuette was consecrated to the goddess of love and war Inanna / Ištar . Iddin-ilum , a šakkanakku (governor) of Mari, is named as its founder .
