Staudinger (legal commentary)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Staudinger is a major commentary on the German Civil Code (BGB) and some subsidiary laws . The work is at Sellier- de Gruyter relocated and currently includes 106 current volumes, totaling about 70,000 pages. The comment was initiated in 1898, two years before the Civil Code came into force, by Privy Councilor Julius von Staudinger , whose name the comment still bears today. The first edition in six volumes was completed in 1903.

Because of the detail and the large amount of information, it usually takes several years until an edition is completed. The twelfth edition (44 volumes, 37,000 pages) began in 1973 and was not completed until 1999. There have been no complete new editions since 1993; instead, individual volumes are revised if necessary.

The Staudinger is the oldest and, before the Soergel and the Munich Commentary on the Civil Code, the most detailed commentary on the BGB, which is why he enjoys a high reputation in the legal world.

The comment can also be used in full text via legal databases. After being able to use it for a long time via juris and Beck-Online , the Staudinger was only available via Beck-Online since April 2011. From January 2015, however, the publisher is licensing exclusively to juris.

Under the name Staudinger, a one-volume textbook Corner Pillar of Civil Law is also available to prepare for the exam.
