Julius von Staudinger

Julius Staudinger , from 1885 Ritter von Staudinger , (born January 28, 1836 in Schwabach , † January 1, 1902 in Munich ) was a German lawyer . He was President of the Senate at the Munich Higher Regional Court from July 1888 and Royal Privy Councilor from April 1900 .

Julius von Staudinger was the son of the District Court Assessor Karl Friedrich Staudinger. In 1859 he passed his state law examination. From 1860 he worked in the State Ministry of Justice. In 1862 he married Johanna Sophie Heerwagen in Nuremberg. During his career he was given temporary retirement due to illness, first from May 1875 to March 1884 . On December 28, 1885 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown . In April 1894 he finally went into retirement due to permanent incapacity.

Julius von Staudinger is known as the founder of a major commentary on the German Civil Code (BGB) . The first edition in six volumes appeared from 1898 to 1903; Von Staudinger could not see the completion. Nevertheless, Der Staudinger appears under his name to this day. He is considered to be one of the most renowned BGB commentaries.
