Salvan (dt. Formerly Scharwang ) is a political municipality and a civil parish in the district of Saint-Maurice in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland .

geography

The municipality of Salvan is located west of Martigny in the Vallée du Trient , on the River Trento . The northern part of the Lac d'Emosson reservoir is located in the southeast of the municipality .

Districts: Les Marécottes , Le Trétien, Les Granges; Not in the main valley are the districts of Van-d'en-Bas and Van-d'en-Haut in the upper valley of the Salanfe river below the Dent du Salantin summit near the Dents du Midi mountain range .

history

Marconi rock

In the 19th century, the place was opened up in terms of traffic through the construction of the Vernayaz-Chamonix road 1855-67 and the start of the stagecoach operation, in 1906 through the opening of the Martigny-Chamonix railway line . During this time Salvan developed into a climatic health resort .

Guglielmo Marconi carried out radio tests in Salvan in 1895.
