Plug-in coil

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A plug -in reel (also called split-reel ) is a specially constructed film reel in which the flanks are not firmly attached to the spool core, but one flank can be removed or there is no second flank at all. In contrast to the fixed reel, the core of plug-in reels has a smaller diameter and driving pins for holding P2 film cores / bobbies.

Plug -on reels are used to rewind film - for example the individual files of a film copy - from the P2 film core to “normal” film reels or film platter systems (and vice versa) using a rewinder or rewind table . Furthermore, loose film pieces can also be wound onto film cores with plug-in reels.

The name comes from the fact that the two side parts of the plug-in reel are plugged into each other and the film core is attached to winding or unwinding. With plug-in reels made today, the flanks are usually no longer inserted, but screwed.
