Sticks
Stecse (Lithuanian Stekšys ; † 1214 ) was the first certainly existing prince known by name in Lithuania .
Life
Henry of Latvia reported about him in his Livonian Chronicle. He referred to Stecse as dux et princeps ( leader / duke and prince ) without giving any further information. In 1214 he came with a large army from Lithuania across the Daugava (to Livonia ). The order master Bertold von Wenden collected his sword brothers , in addition there came Prince Vladimir (von Pskow) with an army, as well as other Germans and Latvians. The Lithuanians were ambushed and their prince and many others killed; the survivors fled.
