Stefan Grote

Stefan Grote (born March 7, 1958 in Braunlage ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1998 to 2003 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament.

Grote attended elementary school in Hohegeiß and then secondary school in Braunlage. After graduating from high school in Göttingen , he studied communications engineering at a technical college in Berlin. After two years of military service in Clausthal-Zellerfeld , he worked for the Deutsche Bundespost from 1983 to 1989. He then worked for Deutsche Telekom until his election to the state parliament. During this time he joined the SPD in 1990, for which he became a councilor in Braunlage in 1991. He was elected to the Lower Saxony state parliament in 1998 through a direct mandate in constituency 17 Harz, of which he was a member until 2003. From 2006 to 2016 Stefan Grote was mayor of the city of Braunlage.
