Stefano Canuti

Stefano Canuti (* 1961 in Parma ) is an Italian bassoonist and music teacher.

Canuti first learned classical guitar and switched to bassoon at the age of seventeen. His teacher was Ovidio Danzi . He was first bassoonist of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and then moved to the RAI orchestra in Turin. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in many cities in Europe, in North and South America and in China, and has recorded a dozen solo albums. On the 25th anniversary of the International Double Reed Society , he recorded François René Gebauer's six arias from Gioacchino Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" for two bassoons with Sergio Azzolini .

In symphonic works he appeared a. a. with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Claudio Abbado and the Symphonica Toscanini under Lorin Maazel . Canuti teaches bassoon at the Conservatorio de Música Lucio Campiani in Mantua. In 2003, José Antonio Abreu invited him to the Fundación del Estado para el Sistema Nacional de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela as professor of bassoon . Since 2006 he has been a professor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
